Registered Midwife - Practice Lead & Partner

Bisi Adegunju
I was “Chosen” as a Midwife from birth! I was born at home before my mother could reach the hospital. I remember how fondly my mom talked about the incredible women that helped her. I believe every woman deserves to go through pregnancy and birth her babies in a supported, respectful and loving environment. I am very grateful for being part of my client’s transformative journey through pregnancy and birth. Prior to moving to Grande Prairie, I worked at a rural practice in Manitoba I enjoyed the challenges of rural practice as a midwife. I look forward to working with women from Grande Prairie and the surrounding areas.

Deanna Reiswig

I was born in Whitehorse Yukon, and raised in Bezanson Alberta. My interest in working with expectant families began early in my career as a Registered Nurse after graduating from U of A in 1996. I’ve worked in the communities of High Prairie, Grande Prairie and Red Deer, with the majority of my career spent in Labour and Delivery, Postpartum, Public Health and teaching Birthing from Within(TM) childbirth classes. It was during these years that I developed a deep respect and fascination for the complex transformation that pregnancy, birth and parenting brings. The power of birth, along with the deep strength and resources parents draw from to navigate it has always amazed and humbled me. The longer I spent working with pregnant families, the more involved I wanted to become. As I began working with midwives, I started to realize that the comprehensive care they provide throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum was exactly the kind of work I wanted to do.
Eventually, after much contemplation, my family and I moved to Toronto so I could complete my Midwifery training through Ryerson University. This was a great experience with the opportunity to work alongside incredibly diverse families, and midwives, in a busy downtown practice. After a great adventure in the big city I was offered a position with the Grande Prairie Midwives. My family and I are thrilled to return to our roots, spend time with our immediate and extended family, and be in the wide-open spaces of the Peace Country again.
When I am not working, I love spending time finding new adventures with my incredibly patient, and supportive husband Brian and our children Grace and Andrew
It is always an honor and privilege to support families during pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Registered Midwife

Axa Patino

I was born and raised in Venezuela. Before moving to Canada, I worked as an Obstetrician and Gynecologist providing a high standard of medical care within home and hospital settings; I was always a fervent promoter of humanized birth, early bonding and breastfeeding, combining medical knowledge with a holistic approach, which care for the body, emotions and the most valuable treasure, the baby.

When I learned about the Philosophy of the midwives in Canada, I had no doubt that I wanted to become one of them. After Completing the International Midwifery Pre-Registration Program at Ryerson, I worked in Northern Ontario and now I am so thrilled and grateful to be a part of the team at Midwives of Grande Prairie.

I believe that birth is a natural physiological process and a meaningful event that shapes each family into who they are. It is an honor for me to accompany families and their loved ones through the life changing journey of pregnancy, birth, and new parenthood. I strongly believe in supporting clients through informed choice, and facilitating a safe and meaningful birth and postpartum experience.

OFFICE Manager

Carla McLeod
My name is Carla McLeod and I am honored to work as the office assistant for the Midwives of Grande Prairie. I grew up in the Peace Country and spent the early part of my career working in business and community development. When my youngest child was born in 2014, I made the choice to become a stay at home mom to my 3 wonderful children. In August of 2019, when my youngest son started kindergarten, I welcomed the opportunity to try something new by joining the Midwives of Grande Prairie team. I have always had a passion for working with organizations that bring value to the community, and I am inspired by the way the Midwives fulfill a need within the Grande Prairie area. I truly feel our community is better for having midwifery services here, and it is a privilege to be a small part of that. I enjoy getting to know our clients throughout their pregnancy and I love meeting the babies when they arrive. It is an honor to share in your journey as you grow your family, I look forward to meeting you soon!
